Privacy policy Bikee

Last updated 14 October 2026. Applies to the Bikee app for Android and the Bikee ride page at bikee-ride.vercel.app.

Bikee is a cycling navigation app. To guide you it needs your location, and to warn riders about hazards it keeps what riders report. This page says exactly what we keep, for how long, and who else sees it. In short: no adverts, no tracking, nothing sold.

Who we are

Bikee is run by Benjamin Jehan, who is the data controller. For any question or request about your data, write to benjamin.jehan@gmail.com.

Your account

You do not need to sign up. The first time you open Bikee, it creates an anonymous account: a random identifier, with no name, email or phone number. It lets the app keep your ride history and your reports together.

If you choose to sign in, we also keep:

Your anonymous account then becomes that account, so your rides and reports stay yours.

Your location

Bikee uses your location only while you use the app, and during a ride, including when the screen is off (Android then shows a "Bikee vous guide" notification for as long as it does). It never follows you outside a ride. Your location is used to:

Some of these uses send your position to other services. They are all listed under "Services we use".

Riders around you

During a ride with real GPS, Bikee can show you to other Bikee riders nearby as an anonymous dot. This setting is off by default. The app asks you once, at your first ride with real GPS, and you can change it at any time in Settings, in Privacy, or on the riders screen. Demo rides and simulated positions are never shared.

Live ride sharing

When you share a ride, Bikee creates a secret link. Anyone who has the link can see your last position, direction, speed, estimated arrival time and the name of your destination, until the share ends.

Your rides

When you finish a ride with real GPS, Bikee saves it to your history: start and end times, the track you rode (the GPS points), distance, duration, average speed, your type of bike, whether you reached your destination, the destination name and your thumbs up or down if you give one. Only you can see your rides. We also keep simple totals for your account (points, number of rides, distance, reports and confirmations).

Your rides are kept until you ask us to delete them or delete your account. Demo rides are never saved.

Hazard reports

When you report a hazard (by tapping or by voice) or tell Bikee whether a hazard is still there, we store the hazard type, its position, your direction of travel, the time, and a short note if you add one.

Treasures

The ride page can place small collectable treasures near you. To do that we store their positions (within 2 km of where you are) with your account. They expire after 24 hours.

Voice

Voice commands are optional and only work after you allow the microphone. Bikee does not record audio, does not store it, and never receives it.

Your profile picture

A profile picture is optional. If you sign in with Google, your Google picture is used, and it is shown only in your Profile. You can instead take a photo (the camera is asked for only then) or choose one with the system photo picker (Bikee sees only that photo). It is resized to 256 pixels on your phone, and its location and camera details are removed. It is stored privately: only you can see it. A friend in "Meet a friend" sees it only if you turn on "Show my picture to my friend", through a link that expires within 2 hours, and only during the meet. It is deleted when you remove it or delete your account. If your Google account already has a Bikee profile, signing in with Google switches to it; rides made without an account on this phone are not added to it.

Test mode

Test mode is off unless you turn it on (Settings, Advanced) and is meant for testers. While it is on, Bikee records your session to help us fix problems: the screens you open and what you tap, your settings changes, every GPS position with speed, direction, accuracy and compass, the routes asked for and how long they took, voice commands as text (never audio) and the app's answers, hazard warnings and your answers, performance (frame rate, memory, load times) and errors, with your phone model and the Android and app versions. It is sent to us in batches with a random session id, without your account, and deleted 30 days after the last upload. Turning test mode off deletes what has not been sent yet.

What stays on your phone

Your settings, saved places, your last ride before it is saved, and your sign in session are kept on your phone only.

Like any website or server, these services see your IP address and may keep short technical logs under their own policies. Some of them (Vercel, Google and the code delivery networks) are companies based outside the EU and the UK.

We do not use adverts or tracking tools, and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone. Crash reports go to Sentry and to our own database (errors only, no account, kept 30 days); test mode is the only other diagnostic, and only if you turn it on.

Why we may use your data

Your rights

Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and object to or limit its use. To delete your account, open the app: Profile, then Privacy, then Delete my account. It erases your account and everything linked to it (rides, totals, votes, treasures, shares, live position) straight away. You can also write to benjamin.jehan@gmail.com and we will do it within 30 days. Deleting your account does not remove public hazards you reported, because they carry no link to you.

If you never added an email or Google, your account is anonymous: use the button in the app, because we cannot tell which account is yours from a message alone. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on the phone, but not your anonymous account on our server.

You can also complain to the data protection authority: the ICO in the UK (ico.org.uk) or the CNIL in France (cnil.fr).

Children

Bikee is not meant for children under 13 in the UK, or under 15 in France, without a parent's agreement. If you think a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change how Bikee uses your data, we will update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
